About AI text cleanup

AI text cleanup strips the punctuation and formatting artifacts that make pasted LLM output read as AI-generated. Paste text from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any assistant, and the tool finds em dashes and en dashes, curly (smart) quotes, invisible Unicode characters, stray Markdown formatting markers, and repeated stock hedge phrases, then shows a before-and-after so you can see exactly what changed before you copy or download the cleaned result.

Everything runs in your browser. The text you paste is not uploaded, logged, or stored, and each of the five cleanup rules can be turned on or off before you clean. A sample paragraph is preloaded so you can see the tool work right away.

How to use

  1. Paste text copied from an AI assistant into the text box. A sample AI-looking paragraph is loaded so you can try the tool immediately.
  2. Turn any of the five cleanup rules off if you want to keep that kind of punctuation or formatting.
  3. Select Clean text to see a before view with every matched artifact struck through, and an after view with the cleaned result.
  4. Copy the cleaned text or download it as a plain text file.

Worked examples

Em dashes and en dashes become a plain hyphen

One of the most common AI-writing tells is replaced with a plain hyphen, so pasted text reads like ordinary prose.

Curly (smart) quotes become straight quotes

Left and right curly quote marks are straightened so pasted text matches typical plain-text and code conventions.

Call __init__ before use. stays unchanged

The Markdown cleanup rule recognizes real bold and italic phrases but leaves code identifiers like Python dunder methods alone.

Frequently asked questions

What does AI text cleanup remove?
Five independently toggleable artifacts: em dashes and en dashes, curly (smart) quotes, invisible Unicode characters and non-breaking spaces, stray Markdown formatting markers (bold, italic, heading hashes), and a stock hedge phrase repeated more than once in the same paste.
Will this delete legitimate punctuation, like multiplication signs or code identifiers?
No. A standalone asterisk or underscore used as punctuation, such as "3 * 4" or a code identifier like "__init__", is left alone. Only Markdown-style emphasis and headings are stripped.
Is my pasted text uploaded anywhere?
No. The cleanup runs entirely in your browser. The text you paste, and the cleaned result, are never uploaded, logged, or stored. Only a coarse, anonymous count of how many artifacts were found is used to know the feature is being used.
Can I see exactly what was changed before I copy the result?
Yes. The before view shows your original pasted text with every matched artifact struck through, so you can review the exact changes before copying or downloading the cleaned version.
