Frequently Asked Questions
- What are UTM parameters?
- UTM parameters are tags added to a URL that let Google Analytics (and other analytics tools) track where your traffic comes from. The three required parameters are utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign.
- Do I need an account to use UTMatic?
- No. UTMatic runs entirely in your browser with no sign-up or login required.
- Is UTMatic affiliated with Google?
- No. UTMatic is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Google in any way.
About UTMatic
UTMatic adds campaign tracking tags to a link inside your existing copy, so analytics can tell which source, channel, and campaign sent each visitor. Paste a sentence or post that contains a URL, fill in the UTM fields, and it rewrites that link in place with the tags attached while leaving the rest of your text untouched.
It is built for marketers and creators who share the same link across email, social, and ads and need each placement to report separately. If your pasted link already carries UTM tags, UTMatic reads them back into the fields so you can adjust rather than start over. Everything runs in your browser with no sign-up.
How to use
- Paste text that contains a URL into the input box. UTMatic detects the first link and warns you if none is found.
- Fill in the three required fields: utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign.
- Add any optional parameters you track, such as utm_term, utm_content, or utm_id.
- Select Generate to rewrite the link in your text with the tags attached.
- Select Copy to put the tagged result on your clipboard, ready to paste into your channel.
Worked examples
source=newsletter, medium=email, campaign=spring_sale
Tagging the same product link in a newsletter lets analytics separate email clicks from every other channel.
https://example.com/product -> ...?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=spring_sale
UTMatic appends the parameters to the link found in your copy and leaves the surrounding sentence intact.
Pasted link already had utm_campaign=spring_sale
Existing tags are read back into the fields and highlighted, so you can edit one value instead of retyping the link.
Frequently asked questions
- What are UTM parameters and which ones are required?
- UTM parameters are tags added to a link so analytics can record where a visitor came from. UTMatic treats utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign as required, and offers optional fields like utm_term, utm_content, utm_id, and utm_source_platform for finer tracking.
- Why does UTMatic ask me to paste text instead of just a URL?
- It rewrites the link in place inside your copy, so you can tag a link without retyping the post or email around it. UTMatic finds the first URL in what you paste, tags that link, and returns the whole text with the rest left unchanged.
- What happens if my text has more than one link?
- UTMatic tags the first URL it finds and shows a notice that only the first link is tagged. To tag a different link, paste that link first or run the other one through separately.
- Will it read tags that are already on my link?
- Yes. If the pasted link already carries UTM parameters, UTMatic loads those values into the matching fields and highlights them, so you can adjust an existing tagged link instead of rebuilding it from scratch.
- Why is the Generate button disabled?
- Generate stays disabled until your text contains a URL and all three required fields, source, medium, and campaign, are filled. A notice lists any required field still missing so you know what to complete.
- Do I need an account, and where do my links go?
- No account is required. The tags are assembled right in the page, and the text and link you paste stay on your device rather than reaching a server.
- Is UTMatic affiliated with Google?
- No. UTMatic is an independent tool that builds links in the UTM format read by Google Analytics and other tools, but it is not affiliated with Google.
