About the Pomodoro timer
The Pomodoro timer runs a 25 minute focus block and then prompts you to rest, so you can work in steady stretches instead of one long grind. Pick a mode, press Start, and the countdown handles the timing while you keep your attention on the task in front of you. It is built for studying, writing, coding, chores, or any work that goes better in timed bursts.
Three modes cover the full cycle: Focus for 25 minutes of work, Short Break for 5 minutes between blocks, and Long Break for 15 minutes after several rounds. The timer runs in your browser with no sign-up, and a session counter on the card shows how many focus blocks you have finished.
How to use
- Select a mode tab: Focus, Short Break, or Long Break. The countdown loads that mode's length.
- Press Start to begin the countdown, shown as minutes and seconds on the card.
- Press Pause to stop the clock mid-block, then Start again to resume from where it left off.
- Press Reset to send the current mode back to its full time without changing modes.
- When a focus block ends the card flashes; switch to a break tab, then return to Focus for the next round.
- Watch the session line below the buttons to see your current session number and how many focus blocks you have completed.
Worked examples
Focus 25:00, then Short Break 5:00
A single Pomodoro: one 25 minute focus block followed by a 5 minute rest before the next one.
4 focus blocks, then Long Break 15:00
After four completed focus blocks, take the 15 minute long break to recover before starting over.
Session 3 • 2 completed
The counter reads like this when you are on your third session and have already finished two full focus blocks.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the Pomodoro Technique?
- It is a time management method that breaks work into focused intervals, traditionally 25 minutes, separated by short breaks. The repeated start and stop helps you begin tasks you have been avoiding and keeps fatigue from building up across a long session.
- Can I change the 25, 5, and 15 minute lengths?
- This timer uses the classic fixed lengths: 25 minutes for Focus, 5 for Short Break, and 15 for Long Break. You switch between them with the mode tabs rather than typing custom durations.
- What happens when a focus block finishes?
- The countdown reaches 00:00, the timer card flashes to signal that the block is over, and your completed count goes up by one. You then choose a break tab and start the break, or jump straight into another focus block.
- What does the session counter track?
- The line below the buttons shows your current session number and how many focus blocks you have completed in this visit, for example Session 3 and 2 completed. Break blocks do not add to the completed count, only finished focus blocks do.
- Can I pause and come back to a block?
- Yes. Press Pause to freeze the countdown at its current time, then press Start to continue from that exact point. Reset is separate: it returns the current mode to its full length.
- Does the timer keep running if I switch tabs or close the page?
- The timer runs while the page is open. If you close or reload the page the count is not saved, since nothing is stored on a server. Keep the tab open in the background to let a block finish.
- Do I need to install anything or sign up?
- No. The timer runs entirely on your device, so your sessions are not recorded or sent anywhere. No install and no account are needed.
